چکیده

Introduction: Spinel minerals with 'normal' structure are common in extraterrestrial materials and can form via a large range of processes including nebular condensation, crystallization from liquid melts and sub-solidus metamor-phic reactions. Owing to their ability to accept a large range of cations in their crystal structures these minerals can be regarded as useful petrogenetic indicators which largely reflect their parental sources. In carbonaceous chondrites, for instance, multicomponent spinels present in Type 2 chondrules crystallized from silicate melts (drop-lets) rich in Fe, Cr, Mg and Al whereas nearly pure MgAl 2 0 4 spinels present in Type B CAIs formed in a nebu-lar environment consistent with high temperature condensation of refractory minerals. In this study we examine non-magnetite, non-magnesioferrite spinel minerals rich in Fe

Mineralogical and geochemical investigations of chromite ores from ophiolite complexes of SE Iran in terms of chrome spinel composition

Ten chromite ores from ophiolite complexes in SE Iran were analyzed mineralogically by XRD, chemically by XRF, and mineral chemistry by EPMA. The identified paragenesis of silicate minerals of chromite ores with the X-ray diffraction is pronounced differently. It consists of secondary phases formed as serpentine, Cr-containing chlorite (kaemmererite), chromic garnet (uarovite) with preserved pa...

Chromite composition as evidence of metamorphism in komatiites, greenstone belt, Mozambique

Archaean komatiites of the greenstone belt in Manica area, western Mozambique contains accessory amount of disseminated chromite grains. The komatiite rocks comprise peridotitic and basaltic komtiite. These komatiites are affected by regional metamorphism as all of the studied area. It is observed that only chromian spinel is preserved as the primary mineral and that all the other primary miner...

Normative calculation of mineral composition in Cr ores of the ophiolite complexes from SE Iran

Specific elements (Cr, Al, Ca, and Si) and loss on ignition (LOI) were used for semi-quantitative determination of the normative mineralogical composition of naturally occurring chromium ores in ophiolite complexes. By far the occurring ore minerals are complex both from the mineralogical and chemical viewpoints. The secondary minerals serpentine and Cr-containing chlorite (kaemmererite) form n...

بررسی شیمی اسپینل و الیوین و تعیین محیط زمین ساختی پریدوتیت‌های افیولیت شمال‌غرب پیرانشهر، شمال‌غرب ایران

According to the olivine and spinel chemistry, two types of peridotite were identified from west north Piranshahr ophiolite. Peridotite rocks are classified based on chemistry of spinel and olivine. Average number of Cr in spinels (Cr#[(100*Cr/(Cr+Al))]) and Mg-number (Mg#[100*Mg/(Mg+Fe)]) in dunite are 0.63 and 0.51 respectively. In harzburgite, Cr# is 0.33 and Mg# is 0.67 and in spinel from s...

Elemental and Mineralogical Compositions of Cluster Idps: a Possible Analog to the Wild 2 Particles Collected by Stardust

Introduction: NASA's Stardust spacecraft collected the first particles clearly identified a originating on a specific comet, 81P/Wild 2, and delivered them to Earth for examination. Prior to the Stardust collection it had been suggested that some chondritic porous in-terplanetary dust particles (CP IDPs) collected from the Earth's stratosphere were from comets, based on the degree of heating ex...
